SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve? Businesses often target markets by surface attributes like company size or industry, which produces vague positioning and wasted sales effort. This Skill defines an Ideal Customer Profile grounded in the purpose customers hire the offering for, so targeting, messaging, and qualification all line up. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Purpose-first segmentation: Identify the customers who got the most value, retained, and referred, then read what they have in common. - Structured ICP document: Capture purpose and fit, firmographic conditions of sale, buying behaviour, disqualification criteria, and the highest-value slice to focus on first. - Go-to-market implication: State where to find these customers, what to lead with, and what to qualify out. - Use Case: A founder with early wins across mixed industries uses the Skill to analyse win/loss evidence and produce an ICP that names the segment to concentrate on and explicitly excludes poor-fit prospects. ## Quick Start Use the ideal-customer-profile skill to draft an ICP from my customer win/loss notes and discovery interviews.

FAQPage Schema
How do I define an ideal customer profile for my business?▼

Gather evidence from existing customers, wins, interviews, and churn, then identify which customers got the most value and retained. Write the ICP around the purpose they hire the offering for, the criteria they select on, firmographic conditions of sale, and explicit disqualification criteria.

What is the difference between an ICP and a buyer persona?▼

An ICP defines which customer segment the offering best fits and who is worth selling to, while a persona describes the individual people who select and use the product within that segment. This Skill builds the ICP on the same segmentation as personas so they stay aligned.

Should an ICP lead with firmographics like company size and industry?▼

No. This method inverts the firmographics-first approach: the ICP is defined by the purpose-segment the offering best fits, and firmographics, procurement gates, and route to purchase are recorded as conditions of sale that describe the segment rather than define it.

When should I revisit or update my ideal customer profile?▼

Revisit the ICP as evidence accumulates from new wins, losses, and churn. An ICP built from only a few wins is a starting hypothesis, so treat it as a living document that sharpens as customer data grows.

Why does an ICP need disqualification criteria?▼

A real ICP excludes. Stating who is explicitly not a fit, and why, prevents wasted sales effort on poor-fit prospects and keeps positioning and qualification honest. An acceptable-secondary note can capture edge cases without diluting focus.
