SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill requires uipath, pydantic, httpx, pydantic-settings.

What problem does it solve? It guides developers through scaffolding, implementing, packaging, and publishing deterministic Python Coded Functions on the UiPath platform when out-of-the-box activities cannot cover custom business logic such as ERP connector calls, document processing rules, or data transformations. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Full CLI lifecycle: Covers uip function new/init/run/pack/publish/push for scaffolding, entry-point generation, packaging to .nupkg, and publishing to Orchestrator or Studio Web. - Typed I/O and registration patterns: Defines pydantic Input/Output models, the functions map in uipath.json, entry-points.json generation, and file attachment inputs via the Attachment type. - Platform SDK integration: Shows how to retrieve assets, download bucket files, and invoke Integration Service connector activities through the UiPath Python SDK. - Use Case: Build a function that queries an ERP system via an Integration Service connection, transforms the result with rule-based logic, and returns typed output invocable from Maestro, Flow, or a Coded Agent. ## Quick Start Scaffold a new Python Coded Function with typed pydantic input and output, register it in uipath.json, then run uip function init, pack, and publish to Orchestrator.

Frequently Asked Questions about uipath-functions

FAQPage Schema
How do I create a Python Coded Function in UiPath?▼

Run `uip function new <name> --language py` to scaffold the project, define pydantic Input/Output models, register the entrypoint in the `functions` map of uipath.json, then run `uip function init` followed by `uip function pack` and `uip function publish`.

Python vs JavaScript functions in UiPath, which should I use?▼

Use Python when you need Orchestrator job semantics, audit trails, retry, scheduling, or full UiPath SDK access from Maestro, Flow, or agents. Use JS/TS functions for low-latency HTTP backends serving Coded Apps frontends, since they have no job lifecycle.

Can a UiPath Coded Function call an LLM or act as an agent?▼

No. Coded Functions are deterministic units that take typed input and return typed output without reasoning or LLM calls. For LLM reasoning or multi-step agentic decisions, use a framework-based agent built with LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or OpenAI Agents instead.

Why does uip function pack fail or miss entry points?▼

You must run `uip function init` before pack or push. It discovers entrypoints and generates entry-points.json, bindings.json, and project.uiproj. Re-run it whenever Input/Output schemas or the uipath.json entrypoint registration changes.

How do I accept a file attachment as input to a UiPath function?▼

Type an Input field as `Attachment` from uipath.platform.attachments inside a pydantic BaseModel. Running `uip function init` emits the JobAttachment resource kind in entry-points.json so Studio Web and Orchestrator render a file picker for that field.

How do I call an ERP connector from a UiPath Python function?▼

Use `sdk().connections.invoke_activity` with an ActivityMetadata describing the connector's object path, method, and parameter locations, plus the connection ID and activity input. Instantiate UiPath lazily inside a getter, never at module level.
