SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve? Renaming a study in this repository touches many files: the study directory, catalog JSON files, the proposal registry, GitHub proposal issues, References paths, and regenerated PDF/HTML outputs. Doing this manually risks stale links, broken catalogs, and desynchronized portal metadata. This Skill coordinates the entire rename through a single script and a defined checklist. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Script-driven rename: Runs Scripts/_rename_study.py to move the study directory, update catalog rows, sync proposal-registry.json and .proposal-meta.json, and rewrite References paths. - GitHub issue reconciliation: Updates the proposal issue slug and title, or defers updates with --skip-issue until post-merge reconciliation. - Artifact regeneration: Regenerates the study PDF, HTML, and discussion page, with flags like --dry-run, --metadata-only, and --skip-pdf for controlled execution. - Use Case: A contributor needs to shorten a too-long study slug before release. They create a feature branch, dry-run the rename, execute it, update the H1 and Edited-on timestamp, fix cross-study links, and open a study-update PR that passes CI validation. ## Quick Start Ask the assistant to rename the study from the old slug to the new slug using the rename-study workflow, starting with a dry run on a feature branch.

Frequently Asked Questions about rename-study

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema
How do I rename a study slug in this repository?▼

Run Scripts/_rename_study.py with --from, --to, and --title flags on a feature branch, starting with --dry-run to preview changes. The script moves the directory, syncs catalogs and the proposal registry, and regenerates PDF/HTML outputs.

What are the slug naming rules for a study rename?▼

Slugs may contain only letters, digits, and hyphens, must be 60 characters or fewer, and the canonical path Studies/<Slug>/<Slug>.md must stay at or under 200 characters. The portal rejects longer slugs.

Does the rename script update the GitHub proposal issue automatically?▼

It can update the issue slug and title, but the recommended flow uses --skip-issue during local preparation. After merge, the protected-branch reconciliation job updates the linked issue from the merged registry metadata.

What manual steps are required after running the rename script?▼

You must update the study H1 title, refresh the Edited-on timestamp and catalog Last-updated date, fix Start here index references if applicable, and update cross-study links in the same PR. The script does not rewrite markdown headings or other studies' links.

Why does CI reject my study rename pull request?▼

CI rejects PRs with stale links to the old slug, missing study-update labels, incorrect Study slug lines in the PR body, or a Start here slug no longer in the catalog. Run the local check, regenerate, and finalize scripts before opening the PR.
