SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve? Hard-won lessons from debugging sessions and workflow discoveries are easily forgotten, causing the same mistakes to repeat across projects. This Skill captures those lessons and stores them as persistent, domain-organized memory instructions that future AI sessions can apply automatically. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Domain-Organized Memory: Automatically categorizes learnings into domain-specific memory files (e.g., clojure-memory.instructions.md) or creates new domain files when no match exists. - Global and Workspace Scopes: Stores memories globally in VS Code user prompts for all projects, or in workspace instructions for project-specific knowledge. - Intelligent Categorization: Globs existing memory files, matches new lessons to existing domains, and avoids redundancy by reading current content before writing. - Use Case: After repeatedly forgetting fish shell syntax differences, run /remember >shell-scripting now we've forgotten about using fish syntax too many times to persist the lesson so it is never lost again. ## Quick Start Ask the agent to remember a lesson using the syntax /remember followed by an optional >domain and scope, then the lesson content, such as "/remember >clojure prefer passing maps over parameter lists".

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema
How do I save a lesson learned so an AI assistant remembers it?▼

Use the /remember command followed by the lesson content, for example "/remember avoid over-escaping". Optionally prefix a domain like >clojure and a scope such as global or workspace to control where the memory is stored.

What is the difference between global and workspace memory scope?▼

Global scope stores memory files in the VS Code user prompts directory and applies to all projects, while workspace scope stores them in the project's .github/instructions directory and applies only to that repository. Global is the default scope.

How does the remember command decide which domain file to update?▼

It globs existing memory instruction files to discover current domains, then matches the lesson to the best-fitting domain. If no domain fits, it creates a new domain memory file, and it requests human input when classification is uncertain.

Can I create project-specific AI instructions with /remember?▼

Yes, specify the workspace or ws scope, for example "/remember >testing ws use setup/teardown functions". The lesson is written to a memory file inside the workspace's .github/instructions directory.

What format do the generated memory instruction files use?▼

Each file uses YAML frontmatter with description and applyTo glob patterns, a level 1 domain headline, a tagline, and level 2 headings for each distinct lesson. Content is written as succinct, actionable, positively-framed guidance.
