What problem does it solve?

This Skill ensures that calibrated astronomical data is of sufficient quality and has proper UV coverage before expensive imaging processes are run, preventing wasted computational resources and ensuring reliable scientific results.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Phaseshift Validation: Crucially verifies that Measurement Sets (MS) are correctly phaseshifted to the median meridian, a critical step for accurate imaging.
  • UV Coverage Assessment: Analyzes UV coverage metrics (score, baseline count, max/min baseline) against defined thresholds.
  • Plot Generation: Creates visualizations of UV coverage and density for manual inspection.
  • Use Case: Before initiating a long imaging run for a radio astronomy dataset, use this skill to automatically check if the data has been correctly phaseshifted and if the UV coverage is adequate, flagging any potential issues early.

Quick Start

Run the pre-imaging QA check on the calibrated Measurement Set located at /data/calibrated.ms.
