SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Cold emails with no connection angle get ignored. This playbook finds prospects who are already one hop from the client — primarily people who used to work at one of the client's current customers — and writes the one-line warm intro that references that connection.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Seven-member routing table: Covers current-customer alumni, same-company alumni, same metro, shared investor, event overlap, and website visitors, each with its own data source and build recipe.
  • Output contract: Produces warm_intro_line, warm_intro_member, and a QA-only warm_intro_evidence column so replies can be attributed to the angle that generated them.
  • Exclusion and compliance rules: Drops people still employed at source companies, refuses source sets containing the client's own domain, and defaults to the unnamed copy form so a client's customer is never named without approval.
  • Clay implementations: Ships both a Clay table column spec and a Clay CLI workflow graph for building member 2 (current-customer alumni).
  • Use Case: A B2B agency wants to email marketing directors who previously worked at companies that are now their client's customers, with an opener like "you came up through Coca-Cola, who we work with now".

Quick Start

Ask Claude to run the warm-intros playbook to build a list of alumni from my client's customer companies and draft the warm intro line for each prospect.

FAQPage Schema
How do I build a warm intro prospect list for cold email?▼

Run a people search with a past-company filter set to the client's customer or case-study companies, then exclude anyone still employed there. The playbook recommends building member 2 (current-customer alumni) first, since its source probe returned dated past experiences and roughly 15 of 20 people had moved on.

What is a warm intro line in cold email copy?▼

A warm intro line is a short opener referencing a real connection, shaped like "you came up through Coca-Cola, who we work with now". It stays under 90 characters, names the prospect's former employer, never states dates, and defaults to not naming the client's customer without explicit approval.

Can I name my client's customer in a cold email?▼

Only with explicit client approval. The default copy form says "who we work with now" without identifying the customer, because naming a client's customer is the client's decision and getting it wrong damages the relationship.

Why is my warm intro prospect list too small?▼

The member was likely defined as a time overlap between two specific people, which never produces a campaignable list. Widen the definition to "ever worked at the company and has since moved on" and the same data source yields a real segment.

How do I exclude current employees of my client's customers?▼

Compare each prospect's current employer domain and email domain against the source company list and drop matches. Also push the source companies onto the client's do-not-contact list so the exclusion persists across future list-building runs.

When should I not use the warm intros playbook?▼

Do not use it for finding a second contact at an account you already email, people who engaged with competitor posts, or lookalike companies — those route to other playbooks. It also cannot verify mutual connections, which were removed as unverifiable at scale.
