SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve? Teams often jump from a raw idea straight into code or specs without questioning the problem, weighing alternatives, or checking whether the work is already tracked. This Skill structures that pre-artifact conversation so ideas are challenged, "build nothing" is seriously considered, and the conclusion routes to the right next step. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Structured divergent exploration: Asks open questions one at a time, checks answers against the repository first, and always puts at least two alternatives plus a do-nothing option on the table. - Read-only tracker reality check: Searches existing issues and PRs (when a tracker descriptor is installed) to surface work that is already tracked or in progress before recommending new artifacts. - Challenger gate and routing: Dispatches a skeptical subagent to attack the tentative conclusion, then routes to exactly one exit ramp — answer only, park as issue, write a spec, or make a small change — and emits machine-parseable Next:/Brief: lines for orchestrators. - Use Case: A user says "I have an idea for a plugin system — should we build it?" The Skill explores the problem, finds a related open issue, challenges the conclusion, and after user confirmation writes a brief and routes to om-prepare-issue. ## Quick Start Ask the assistant to brainstorm whether we should build a plugin system for the CLI before writing any spec or code.

FAQPage Schema
How do I evaluate a feature idea before writing a spec?▼

Run a structured brainstorm that restates the problem, explores at least two alternatives plus building nothing, and checks the tracker for existing work. The conversation ends with a confirmed routing decision and a handoff brief for the next step.

What happens after a brainstorm conversation concludes?▼

The conclusion routes to exactly one exit ramp: answer only, park as an issue, write a spec autonomously or collaboratively, make a small direct change, or link an existing issue. The skill emits machine-parseable Next and Brief lines so an orchestrator can run the next step.

Does the brainstorm skill modify repository files or issues?▼

No. It is read-only on the repository and tracker during the conversation. The single exception is one handoff brief file written only after the user confirms the routing decision; it never creates issues, specs, or code.

Can the brainstorm skill run autonomously without a user?▼

No. It is interactive only and must never be driven by autonomous om-auto-* skills. If invoked unattended with no user available, it stops and reports instead of inventing answers.

What if my idea is already tracked in an existing issue?▼

The skill searches issues and PRs during the conversation when a tracker descriptor is installed. If an existing open issue covers the idea, it routes to that issue instead of filing a duplicate.
