SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve? Long-form fiction projects lose stylistic consistency when writing rules live only in chat prompts. This Skill turns proven prose techniques into persistent, editable writing assets stored in output/novel/meta/writing_assets.json, so style rules survive across chapters, arcs, and sessions. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Asset lifecycle management: List, seed defaults, enable, disable, and recompile writing features via the novel-studio CLI. - Presets and scoped binding: Combine features into reusable presets and bind them to a book, volume, arc, chapter, or trial scope. - Trial writing tasks: Generate editable trial task sheets in output/novel/meta/writing_trials/ to test rules like object callbacks, subjective misjudgment, and chapter goal/resistance/cost structure before applying them. - Use Case: After validating that "every chapter answers goal/resistance/cost/new information" improves readability, distill it into a feature, add it to a preset, and bind that preset to the current arc so all future chapters inherit the rule. ## Quick Start Ask the assistant to list the current writing feature pool and enable or trial a specific writing rule for your novel project.

Frequently Asked Questions about novel-writing-assets

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema
How do I manage reusable writing style rules for AI novel generation?▼

Use the novel-studio --writing-assets commands to list, enable, disable, and compile writing features stored in writing_assets.json. Features can be combined into presets and bound to a book, arc, chapter, or trial scope.

How do I test a writing rule before applying it to my novel?▼

Run novel-studio --writing-assets trial with a description of the scene to generate an editable trial task sheet in output/novel/meta/writing_trials/. This lets you validate rules like object callbacks or chapter goal structure before binding them.

Does seed-defaults overwrite my existing writing features?▼

No. The seed-defaults command only adds missing default features, presets, and book bindings. It does not overwrite user-created features or re-enable features the user has already disabled.

Can disabled writing features still affect chapter generation?▼

No. Features with enabled=false are excluded from reference_pack.writing_engine.active_rules, and features bound to other scopes do not leak into the current chapter's render packet.

What are the limitations of writing asset features?▼

Features must be written as executable, reusable rules rather than vague goals or copied sample sentences. Original sample text may only inform rhythm and framing; generated prose must not reuse sample sentences verbatim.
