What problem does it solve?

kubectl-virt simplifies the management of KubeVirt virtual machines on OpenShift and Kubernetes by providing a unified CLI to create, start, stop, pause, migrate, and inspect VMs.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Create and manage VM lifecycles: create, start, stop, restart, pause, unpause, and migrate VMs using kubectl virt.
  • Instance types and OS preferences: leverage --instancetype and --preference (and their infer options) to size VMs and select OS settings; support for multiple disk sources (registry, ds, pvc, http, blank, s3, gcs, snapshot).
  • Access and operations: get, describe, console, ssh, port-forward, and various exposure methods (NodePort, ClusterIP) to interact with VMs from Kubernetes clusters.

Quick Start

Use kubectl virt to create a VM and apply the resulting manifest with kubectl apply -f -.
