SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill requires Pillow, and includes scripts (resource) and references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve? Creating a custom animated pet for the Codex app requires producing a precise 8x9 sprite atlas with nine animation states, transparent cells, and a pet.json manifest, which is tedious and error-prone to do by hand. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Guided Pet Generation: Delegates visual generation to the $imagegen system skill to create a base pet and nine animation row strips (idle, running, waving, jumping, failed, waiting, review) in a consistent pixel-art style. - Deterministic Assembly & QA: Bundled Python scripts extract frames, compose the 1536x1872 atlas, validate geometry, and produce contact sheets and preview videos for review. - Packaging: Outputs a ready-to-install pet package with pet.json and spritesheet.webp under the Codex pets directory. - Use Case: A user provides a character sketch and asks to hatch it as a Codex pet; the skill generates the base art, all animation rows, validates the atlas, and installs the packaged pet. ## Quick Start Hatch a new Codex pet named Sparky from my reference image at /path/to/reference.png and package it for the app.

FAQPage Schema
How do I create a custom animated pet for the Codex app?▼

Provide a pet concept or reference images and run the hatch-pet workflow. It generates a base image plus nine animation row strips via $imagegen, then assembles a 1536x1872 atlas and packages pet.json with spritesheet.webp into the Codex pets directory.

What spritesheet format does the Codex pet atlas require?▼

The atlas must be PNG or WebP at 1536x1872 pixels, arranged as 8 columns by 9 rows of 192x208 cells with a transparent background. Unused cells after each row's final frame must be fully transparent.

Can I hatch a Codex pet without reference images?▼

Yes. For text-only requests, the skill generates a base pet image from your concept first, then uses that base as the canonical reference for grounding every animation row generation.

Why did my pet run fail during finalization?▼

Finalization fails when imagegen jobs are incomplete, row QA reports errors, or job provenance is invalid. Run queue_pet_repairs.py to reopen only the failed rows, regenerate them with $imagegen, and finalize again.

When is running-left mirrored instead of generated?▼

Running-left may be mirrored from running-right only after visual inspection confirms the pet is symmetric with no one-sided markings, props, or text. Otherwise it must be generated as a normal grounded $imagegen row.
