What problem does it solve?

Ghostty lets you control the Ghostty terminal emulator from the command line, enabling scripted window, tab, and layout management to streamline terminal workflows.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Control windows, tabs, and splits via IPC commands (ghostty +list-actions, +new-window, +new-tab, +new-split:direction, +goto-split, +close-surface, +toggle-fullscreen, +reload-config)
  • Manage fonts and appearance (increase/decrease fonts, reset font size) to tailor the terminal environment
  • Configure and launch Ghostty with specific config and working directory to automate startup tasks
  • Use case: automate opening a development session with a predefined window/tabs layout and font size

  2. Start Ghostty with a specific config and working directory: ghostty --config-file=/path/to/config --working-directory=/path/to/project
