What problem does it solve?

This Skill provides a comprehensive guide and set of tools for efficiently finding, querying, and managing data within the Mu2e experiment's modern data handling stack, replacing legacy systems.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Data Discovery: Query datasets and files using the metacat command-line tool.
  • Metadata Management: Understand and work with file naming conventions, namespaces, and Data Identifiers (DIDs).
  • Data Location & Access: Find file locations on dCache (tape, disk, scratch) and generate URLs for access.
  • Data Movement: Prestage files from tape to disk and upload personal files to dCache.
  • Use Case: A researcher needs to find all simulation files for a specific run, check their storage location, and if they are on tape, request them to be prestaged for analysis.
