What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps users organize their Home Assistant devices and entities by physical location, making management, automation, and voice control more intuitive and efficient.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Hierarchical Organization: Define floors (e.g., Basement, Ground Floor, Upstairs) and areas (e.g., Living Room, Kitchen) within your home.
  • Device Assignment: Assign individual devices and entities to specific areas for grouped control.
  • Cross-cutting Grouping: Utilize labels for functional grouping (e.g., 'security', 'energy') that spans across areas and floors.
  • Presence Detection: Configure geographical zones for location-aware automations.
  • Use Case: Set up your entire house in Home Assistant by creating floors for each level, defining rooms as areas on those floors, assigning lights and sensors to their respective rooms, and then using area-based automations to control all lights in the "Living Room" at once.

Quick Start

Use the areas-floors skill to create a new area named "Home Office" and assign it to the "First Floor".
