SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve? Turning a raw product idea or a proposed change to an existing system into a well-structured PRD is hard: ideas arrive vague, scope creeps, and critical decisions go unrecorded. This Skill runs a guided, six-phase discovery conversation that captures vision, personas, access control, MVP scope, functional requirements, and business logic into a resumable shape-notes.md file that feeds directly into PRD generation. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Greenfield/brownfield auto-detection: Scans the working directory for git history, lockfiles, and manifests to detect whether you are starting from scratch or changing an existing system, then adapts all discovery phases accordingly. - Structured six-phase discovery: Walks through vision and problem, persona and access control, MVP discipline, functional requirements with a Socrates challenge round per FR, business logic with empty-CRUD anti-pattern detection, and quality cross-checks. - Checkpointed resume: Writes a checkpoint block into shape-notes.md frontmatter so interrupted sessions can resume from the exact phase where they left off. - Use Case: You have an idea for a recipe app that suggests meals from fridge contents. Invoke the skill with the idea inline, answer the facilitated questions phase by phase, and receive a complete shape-notes.md ready for /10x-prd to convert into a schema-conforming PRD. ## Quick Start Invoke the skill with your idea inline, for example "/10x-shape a recipe app that suggests meals from what's in your fridge", and answer the guided discovery questions.

FAQPage Schema
How do I turn a product idea into a PRD?▼

Run /10x-shape with your idea inline to start a guided six-phase discovery covering vision, persona, MVP scope, functional requirements, and business logic. The resulting shape-notes.md is then consumed by /10x-prd, which maps it into a schema-conforming PRD.

How does the skill detect greenfield vs brownfield projects?▼

It scans the working directory for tiered signals: git history and lockfiles are strong brownfield indicators, manifest files alone are ambiguous, and no signals means greenfield. You confirm or override the detected mode before discovery begins.

Can I resume an interrupted discovery session?▼

Yes. The skill writes a checkpoint block into shape-notes.md frontmatter tracking the current phase, completed phases, and drafted FRs. On re-invocation it detects the prior session and offers to resume from the next unfinished phase without replaying completed ones.

When should I not use this discovery skill?▼

Skip it when the project already has a PRD or ADR set, or when you are scoping a small bug fix, refactor, or minor feature that does not warrant a full PRD. Those cases belong to lighter framing or planning skills instead.

What is the Socrates challenge round for requirements?▼

After functional requirements are drafted, the skill asks exactly one counter-argument question per FR, such as what would make shipping it harmful. Your resolution is recorded as a blockquote under each FR, and weak requirements can be revised, demoted, or dropped.
